Not so Jolly...

well, my excitement of dodging the paper turkey was quickly squashed by the paper tree that came home a week ago. Seriously...I do not understand the logic for this project. It was due on Monday. Guess who's loser parent totally forgot about it. That would be Luke. He came home and said he was the only one who didn't have a tree to put up. So I pulled out the glitter and we glittered away so he could take it yesterday. I'm sure it was not as impressive as some. Oh well.

When we left Tomball I though I was leaving the crazy--out do everybody PTO world. Apparently not. I got a note home for Luke's class holiday party GIFT EXCHANGE! It requests a wrapped gift-under $10 for an exchange in the class! $10!!! What?!? I might not be so riled up if it was like $5--or how about let's not do it at all!! I promise that the kids that go to this school will not be going without this Christmas...so why are we giving them even more?? Why not do a sub for Santa for a needy school, or make gifts for each other?? I'm not happy about this one. I'd go get something at the Dollar store, but I'm afraid I'd give some poor child lead poisoning, so I'm hoping I have something in my gift stash.

On a happier note...yesterday we went to watch Rachel perform with the bell choir. It was quite impressive. If I can figure out how to post video I will. She also was informed that her poem she wrote for the Reflections contest will be going to the regional competition. She is excited. I will post the poem.

I had a fun day yesterday. It was my big sister Ann's birthday...we went to lunch together and then later the kids made birthday signs we went and hung on her door for when she got home from work. I hope she had a great day! We love you Annie!

I'm with you on the kid gift exchange...LAME. I'll just hope that Luke doesn't end up with a new $10 Barbie doll or it will REALLY be a bust. I can't wait to see Rachel's bell performance, I'll be checking back.

Happy Birthday to Ann. Glad you had so much fun celebrating her day.

I think you should really bring up the sub for santa thing, there is not reason why our kids need more. Have you got the note about the teddy bear float? That is the one I am having a hard time with, especially after the christmas tree thing. I am glad you still had a good day, even after I was a no show.

I too agree with the gift exchange. It could really be cool if everyone brought something for a family or so in need. I wish I could've been at Rachel's performance. I'll be anxious to see it too. And congrats to Rachel on her poem too! That's really exciting!
Happy Birthday to Ann. I'm sure she loved the cute things you and your kids did for her!

I am so with you about the gift exchange. Our kids do not need another thing junking up the house, nor do we as mothers needed the added responsibility of procuring junk for other over-priveleged children. In fact, unless my family is together for the holidays we don't even do a cousin exchange. The kids barely noticed amongst all of the Santa stuff and it was a lot of money and work. This year we will all be together, so it makes more sense. I ordered the kids cousin gifts online and Jordan was none too happy that she didn't get to pick it out. So she used her own money to buy a book for her baby cousin at the school bookfair. Now we have two gifts for her? Huh?

gift exchanges at school go into the same category as all those useless fundraiser things, like cookie dough (which I never seem to get around to using). Once upon a time, school was just about learning. Somehow it is turning into one big extended family!
