Discrimination

We have tried so hard to teach our kids to be accepting of everyone despite our differences...and so far I'd thought we'd done an okay job. Until this morning. I guess our "love of all" stops when it comes to cereal. Specifically Cheerios, and what Seth refers to as "The Whites".

I'm sure you are aware of Seth's distaste for all food that is not in the "Breakfast Food" Category. "Colored Cheerios" are his favorite, and he has them probably twice a day. Yes...I know I'm "Mother of the Year".

Well, in an attempt to cut down on the sugar intake I tried to be sneaky and mixed 2 boxes of "Colored Cheerios" with 1 box of "White Cheerios". I figured over time I could get it to a 1:1 ratio. I did not think he'd really notice...not my little Seth. He's a keen little fella! We went through many a bowl that he sat and stared at until it became "silky" (Seth's word for soggy) and he would exclaim, "I don't like Whites!"

I stood my ground for many weeks, but I have officially been broken, and I found myself picking the "Whites" out of his bowl. I did miss one, but Seth saw my face just as he was protesting "There's still a..." and then he said "Oh, it's just yellow. I think it's just yellow mom..."

Wise choice young grasshopper...!!

You are a riot! I read the story to Matt as he was running out the door and I can hear him still laughing in the garage.
