A Merry(?) Christmas...

So...I'm at WINCO on Christmas Eve picking up a few items for our traditional Christmas Eve Fondue.  I decided to peruse the fruit aisle just to see if any of my favorite dipping fruits happened to be a reasonable price.  (That's the problem with doing fondue at Christmas...everything is out of season!)  To my delight, I discovered that they had a bag of kiwi for 98 cents!!  Can you believe that?!?  I couldn't.  So as I stood and stared making certain that I was understanding correctly and wouldn't get up to the register and be charged $98 for the bag...a woman stood next to me and marvled with me.

She then proceeded to enlighten me on all their family traditions in regards to what Santa left in their stockings...fruit and nuts.  Being the polite soul that I am I stood and acted interrested...it was however, Christmas Eve, and I felt obligated.  It was all good until she said, "because, ya know, we're about the same age and when we were young candy was a novelty, and we didn't get any in our stockings..."

I don't think I heard anything she said after that, because I was staring at her thinking, YOU look really old, and do I look THAT old??  I'm sure that when she was growing up and would ride the wagon into the penny candy store it truly was a novelty.  I, however, grew up in the 70's and 80's, and while we consumed MUCH less candy than my kids do now, we did frequent the 7-Eleven on our bikes during the summer and enjoyed a treat or two!

So, my goals for 2010 will all be centered around making myself look 87 years younger.

YIKES! I grew up in the 60's and 70's and even then we enjoyed chocolate and candy. I'd say the problem was in the prescription glasses the woman had forgotten at home. You look GREAT!

Oh my gosh Becky! I was just imagining the look on your face when that lady said that! that made me laugh! :o) Since you and I are around the same age I think I'll go look in the mirror too and just make sure I don't look 87. I too remember riding my bike to 7-eleven and eating all of the candy we bought before we got home.

...and that's when you pretended to turn your beltones down and walked away. Hilarious.

I love Winco Wackos.

Because the lady is wacko; you look great. You totally grew up in the land of "Snickers Satisfies You" commercials.

Mmmm... Snickers.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH! no seriously, im laughing so hard i kinda momentarily woke my sleeping children (why yes, i am blogging from my bed & my kids are asleep in my bed, any tips on how to get them out?) ANYWAY. you do not look old. certainly not "that old" to consider candy to ever be a novelty. and with that i'm going to the bathroom to inspect my head for greys- if you're "that old" then i'm getting way old too.
