News...

So the Regional Destination Imagination Competition was Saturday. AND... Rachel's group won 1st place in their category!! It was quite exciting. They will now go to the State Competition in Dallas in April. She can hardly stand it--although I had to remind her that had it been a humility competition she would not have won.

I am happy for her. They worked very hard and it has been a great experience...that apparently is going to last longer than we thought. I'm still totally confused as to how the whole thing works, but am proud none-the-less. Here is a picture of their elevator they created to launch their plane from. They have 8 minutes to do their thing and at about 6 minutes one of the judges stopped them because they had hit the maximum they could earn launching.

The parents and teachers can not help at all. You even have to sign a paper that says you will not interfere or give ideas. It has to be all them. From the beginning I would hear Rachel say that they were going to buy an engine for the plane. (They have a $70 budget) about a week or so ago she announced one evening that, "I don't know how we're going to launch the plane!" I asked her why they decided not to buy the engine...her reply was, "well after we rented the flight suits we didn't have enough money left to buy the engine." Jared and I were both crying we were laughing so hard. I guess 2 of the boys decided they needed flight suits to wear for the skit they were doing and rented them without consulting the other members of the team. I guess it didn't really matter...they used a rubber band to launch and it worked great. Actually I'm not sure how a motor would have worked anyway.

It is also cool because apparently this is the first team from our school (for the 23 years the school has been open) to go to State. So that makes it even more exciting. I kept hearing the kids say they couldn't wait until the morning announcements on Monday! I hope that they'll be able to fit their inflated heads through the doors on Monday to hear the announcements.

Soccer season is on and Rachel and Sophie have a great team this season. It has been a good experience so far. And aside from complaining to Carrie and I about skills camp they have each week...I think Rachel starting to really enjoy it again.

Sophie was on fire yesterday...no goals for her or Rachel this time. But they did win!

There is a girl on her team that is like her long lost twin!! They've been on the same team for several seasons, but I think everyone is just finally able to tell them apart when they are out playing. It's hard from a distance. The other girl is taller, but when they are on the field you can hardly tell!!

So...the Diabetes Walk was awesome...I'll report on that tomorrow. I've got several hours of reading to do on everyone else's blogs! I need to catch up after my absence!! Have a great week!!
