When I grow up...

Not too long ago my dad asked me what I would do if I was Queen for a day. Apparently this is an idea he mulls over quite a bit because he had a whole laundry list of things--including doing away with the paper one dollar bill and the penny. He is a banker by trade and as long as I can remember has been talking about how the penny costs more to produce than it's worth...he is also a lover of the 1 dollar coin. Something the grand kids have picked up on and love to be the recipients of!

Anyway, at the time I couldn't--and still can't--think of what I would do if I was Queen for a day, I am working on it though...you never know when the opportunity may present itself.

Something I do think about frequently are occupations. If you could magically have the skills needed...and bypass all the politics and working your way up the chain...and be able to quit after an hour if you didn't like it without any consequences...what jobs would you like to try?

Yesterday, as I sat in construction traffic for 15 minutes, I found myself--once again--lost in this thought. So here is my list. To my fellow bloggers...I'd love to hear yours...

1. (New from yesterday) A construction worker. Not just any construction worker, but the guy who uses the cool excavator or other earth moving machinery. (don't worry, I had to google construction equipment to find out the names for my new passion.) I actually really enjoyed watching him move the dirt and fill up the truck that pulled up to haul it off. Maybe someday...

2. Postal delivery. For years I have thought that I would probably enjoy delivering mail. Being in your own little jeep all day neatly tucking away letters into people's mailboxes!! Sounds fun to me!

3. A school librarian.

4. A secretary. Ever since I was a young lass I've dreamed of being a secretary...and not in the way that I am Jared's (and Rachel, Jonah, Luke & Seth's) secretary now. When I was little sometimes we'd get to go into my dad's office on a Saturday with him when no one was there! Just think...the main office of Zions Bank all to yourself. He'd let us sit at his secretaries desk and play with the phone. I was in heaven!

5. A cake decorator. Another childhood dream. When I was little my mom would let me stay at the bakery and watch the ladies decorate the cakes while she did the grocery shopping. I'd at least like to learn how to make a rose...

6. A lawyer or a judge...or a professional juror. When I was in college you could get extra credit in my American Heritage class by observing court. I loved it! I really didn't need all that much extra credit, but enjoyed watching people try to worm their way out of whatever they had done!!

7. An anthropologist.

8. An Old Testament Scholar.

9. An elementary school P.E. teacher. Specifically at the kids school in Texas...those ladies had way too much fun!

10. A High School History teacher. This is actually what I was planning on doing with myself until we started our little family. Maybe someday...

11. A Olympian of some sort...swimming, tennis, gymnastics. Any of those would be fine.

12. A farmer. Again with the machinery. I find myself envious of the farmers as they are driving the tractors in the field...making those nice straight lines. I'd also settle for the job of mowing a football field or any other field for that matter...I'd need a riding mower of course.

13. A National Geographic Photographer.

14. I'd like to sing and dance in a broadway musical...I'm not sure which part I want yet.

15. I'd love to be a cashier. I love cash registers. I always use the self check out when available.

16. I think I might like to take a try at being a truck driver...having my own cab to sleep in. Traveling across the country...

17. I'd love to be the person that picks out the props for t.v. shows or movies. When Jared worked at Disney I always loved going into the prop warehouse on the studio lot. It had rows and rows of telephones, alarm clocks, microwaves...whatever...and then there'd be little papers attached to them that said things like...Alias--episode 26--October 19. So exciting.

18. And lastly for now...a cowboy. Doesn't it sound fun to ride on a horse and herd cattle? Must've got that one from my dad..it's in our blood!

But for now...I'm enjoying my occupation as mom. The "bestest mom in our family" as Seth tells me!

That's quite a list...many of which came as a big surprise to me. Who knew you wanted to drive heavy machinery so much? Now I'll imagine that it's you driving every one I see I'm sure. ( :

I would say for me:
- Photographer
- Chef (I'd like to be able to whip up fancy stuff for some reason...)
- Writer (but not a technical writer, that's for sure)
- Interior decorator
- graphic designer
- Artist
- carpenter
- song writer & guitar pro
- florist
- movie director
- fashion designer (cause I'm the farthest thing from that...)
- makeup artist

I'm sure as the day goes on I'll have dozens of things pop into my head. This blog has really gotten me thinking. ( : Love you! Hope you are all feeling better. Kiss your kids for me.
