It's the end of the road!!! (Whew!)

So we had the State "Destination Imagination" Tournament this past weekend and the kids did great (even coming in dead last in their category!!).

It was quite an experience. Just picture a campus full or creative thinkers 3 grade and up to college--and their parents. I have never seen so much self expression in one place!

We arrived Friday at about 3:30 p.m. and got settled in our motel. We went to dinner at 5:30 and as we were sitting there some bad weather blew in. I went to get some more water and heard a funny noise. I thought it sounded like a tornado siren, but wasn't sure. No one else in the restaurant seemed to notice it or be alarmed by it, so I just sat in my worried state by myself. Then it got a bit louder and someone else finally asked what the sound was. Another mom and I concurred that we thought it was a tornado siren which of course started a bit of chaos and panic.

We jumped in our cars and headed back amidst heavy rain and hail, about a block to our motel. We waited the storm out and when we confirmed it was safe headed over to UTD for the "mixer". Watching the new we saw that there were infact tornados that touched down and wreaked a bit of havoc on Dallas. Sarah Jones was already at campus and I'm sure will be telling of their story being shuffled down into a basement for safety!!

So the mixer...WOW! Pin trading galore. Some of these kids were sharks. And some of the parents need to remember that they are their kids pins and they should just let their kids trade as they please. I hope I am never a freaky controlling mom. Someone let me know if I already am.

This is the teams elevator and plane that they competed with.

The kids all had a great time. Rachel enjoyed playing games with the other girls in our motel room.

Here's a picture of the crazy pin trading and Rachel's pins...

Our awesome Principal flew up for the competition and made these towels for the kids to trade their pins on and some fun goody bags for them for competition day.
