Progress & not so much progress...

I've been trying to evaluate my progress and lack thereof in many avenues in my life...and have become aware of progress around me, and in many cases, the lack thereof...

First and foremost would be progress with my blog. I think we will all agree this would fall into the "lack thereof" category. I am hoping to get caught up with posts of our many activities this week. Stay tuned...

Let me tell you about Luke's progress. Luke is about to finish up his first year of school. He's not so sure he wants to move on to 1st grade. He actually gets quite teary when he talks about it.

This year he's learned to read, write, and so many other important things...AND YET...this morning I watched him walk out the door with his pants on backwards and shoes on the wrong feet. Jared tells me that he assisted Luke in the early stages of getting dressed--turning his shirt around because it too was on backwards. This before the pants and shoes were on.

They were running late, so I just had to let him go. The pants were track pants, and probably nobody noticed. The shoes...Luke will--100% of the time--put his shoes on the wrong feet. I try every day to explain to him which way the shoe should curve. I have failed. Now it is summer and he'll be in flip flops for months, so we'll pick back up in September when school starts. Frankly, we all need a break.

Rachel has made progress...more on that tomorrow--it's her 10th Birthday!!

Progress in school...not so much in piano or soccer. If CPS considered piano and soccer practice abuse--she would be taken from us.

Jonah recently made a lot of progress cleaning up the massive amounts of water that were on the floor due to him pulling the stopper in the bathroom sink and NOT turning the faucet completely off.

(For the record this happened while Jared was on the clock--I was at choir practice) Unfortunately Jonah found the clean up to be fun. He got up as much as he could with a wet vac and then we had to pull all the carpet up and put fans on for days to dry it. It was the downstairs powder room, so there was no damage to anything but the carpet and pad--which will be ripped out this summer anyway for the new family who will call our house "home". I did have to ask myself, "why could he not have done this 3 years ago, when I really wanted new carpet, but couldn't justify it?"

Seth's progress?? Most recently...he can write about 20 of the letters...he can also write his name, Mom & Dad. Not bad! He has also quickly progressed to the #1 spot of being the most spoiled and naughtiest of our children.

He still refuses to eat much more than breakfast foods...at dinner on Easter he spent his time making letters with his asparagus...here's an H and an E.

We all know I'm failing miserably at progressing in most things, so I won't bore you with any details...and I will enlighten you with some other progress I've noticed in a later post...but one more note of lack of progress goes out to Bill Webb.

For those of you who don't frequent the Tomball Wal-Mart...Bill Webb started out as a door greeter...but his new red vest and walkie talkie tell me he's had a big promotion. Bill and I do not know each other formally--although on many occasions he has given me my sticker to place on my items I'm returning.

As far back as I can remember (well in the last 7 years) Bill Webb's name has been on our local ballot every election. He is a chronic "runner" as I like to put it. Poor Bill never wins though. And then he finds another place on the ballot for next time. My guess is that if he isn't elected to the city council then he'll run for the school board again in the fall--which is where his name generally is. I guess he going for this one on the off season. So while Bill's career at Wal-Mart is progressing, his political career is not. Well, we can't all have it all.
