Luke has decided that he needs to be Luke Skywalker for Halloween, because it is his name sake. So in an attempt to be creative and not buy a costume that will be worn for a few hours I have put together a costume...tan pants and t-shirt with a white robe of sorts. Tan shoes of course. He did inform me that Luke has a blue lightsaber and not a green one--which is what we own. BUT...I'd rather invest in a $6 blue lightsaber that will be played with than spending money on a costume. And my kids are still young enough that they won't be scarred by wearing church pants and a robe to trick-or-treat in. I hope. And hey, if there is a need for a shepherds costume at Christmas time...we're set!
I convinced Jonah to be Darth Vader. I lured him to the Dark Side with a new red lightsaber today...with the understanding that if it was opened he was committing to be DV. He agreed. Why DV you ask? Well we have a Darth Vader mask...black pants...I purchased a black turtleneck today at Target...black shoes...and a black cape that Grandma Ellison made a few years back. Two down!!!
Now to the "history" part...when Jared was young his very creative mother put together a Han Solo costume for him...I believe it was church pants and a brown cardigan sweater--because they didn't have a vest. When he got to school in his costume the teacher asked all the kids who were dressed up to come get a treat. Jared went up with the other kids to receive his reward. When he got to the teacher she told him, "Oh Jared, you just look really nice." He was too shy to tell her that he it was his costume and he was Han Solo. This experience has scarred him for life. Maybe I should put a little more time into Luke's...
